It's March 2015 (again in April)!

March 2015 was one of the craziest months of recent.  There were lots of good things going on and lots of not-so-good things going on.  But I guess that's usually the way life goes.

The first of the month started with lots of planning for a brand new venture I could not be more excited about.  For months, my friend Tracy has been toying with the idea of opening a gift/home store.  Several doors closed along the way but one flew wide open about the middle of February and she took the plunge.  She signed a lease on the cutest little house and began the process of preparing to open The Iron Rose.   Isn't this awesome?  You want to know what is more awesome?  I'm moving my Wonderful Events office there!  WooHoo!  I'm super excited.  The Main Street Market location has served us well for almost 5 years but I felt like this was the next right thing.  So we moved all of the office things to the new location last week.  While things are still in major disarray there, it will eventually be fabulous.

Anyway, back to March.  Tracy and I began to think about how best to restore this old house to a more cozy cottage homey feel.  Paint colors and light fixtures were chosen and the buying of merchandise commenced.  Whew, that was an ordeal.  I went to the Mart a couple of times but Tracy, of course, has primarily worked tirelessly to choose just the right merchandise mix.  Which is no easy task when you are opening something new.  I think she's done an amazing job.  I love everything she's bought.  So we've got that going on ...

On March 7th, my sweet girl turned 29 years old.  LOVE this child.  She is such an amazing person.  She's so amazing that she had 2 birthday desserts:  her old favorite Strawberry Cake and her new favorite, Grasshopper Pie.  She loves chocolate and mint so I had to add this to the birthday mix.

Happy Birthday to you, sweet Emily!

On the 14th we headed to Nashville just for a fun weekend.  We usually go to visit D's sister and her family in Murfreesboro and never make it to Nashville.  But this time, we were going to be tourists and we had a great time.

If you are a fan of American Pickers, you need to make a beeline to their new store in Nashville, Antique Archeology.  Of course, what do you think the Wiley's did?  They walked straight to this awesome miniature grocery store.  Is that not awesome?  If not for the $250 price tag, it might have come home with us.

Next we went to the  Fontanel Mansion which is the former home of Barbara Mandrell.  Being a long time fan of Barbara and a super-fan of the Mandrell Sisters Variety Show (who remembers that too?),
this was an awesome glimpse into the Mandrell's career.  And, by the way, the Fontanel Mansion is the largest log home in the world.
Darrell was loving Buck Owen's red, white and blue guitar.  Okay, you've got to remember Buck, too, right?

After an exhausting afternoon of site seeing we had to have some nourishment.  And of course you can't be a tourist in Nashville and not eat at the Loveless Cafe.  The best fried chicken I've ever put in my mouth.  Yum.

On Sunday morning, we got up and went to Puckett's Grocery and Restaurant in Franklin.  We first saw this grocery store turned restaurant on the Food Channel several years ago and have had it in the back of our mind's ever since that we wanted to visit.  We had their breakfast buffet and it did not disappoint.  Delish.  Obviously this is a stock photo of an event held there but this shows you how cool this place is.

After leaving Franklin (which by the way I want to go back when all of those cute little shops are open) we stopped at Carnton Plantation.  I highly suggest you read about this place.  It was fascinating.  During one of the civil war battles, this private home became an instant hospital to 300  soldiers. The wood floors are still stained with the soldier's blood. The ones that were killed are buried right on the grounds, over 1,500 soldiers.   It is the largest privately owned military cemetery in the nation.  The woman of the house, Carrie McGavock become devoted to giving these men a lasting legacy and worked tirelessly to identify the bodies, mark their grave sites and contact their families.  So interesting.

After we left Carnton, we headed to downtown Nashville for a major tourist attraction, The Country Music Hall of Fame.  I loved it.  I could have stayed in there all day.  Right now, they have special Alan Jackson and Ronnie Milsap collections.  Two of my favorites.

One of the reasons for going this weekend was because we had tickets for The Sing Off Live Tour.  We have gotten hooked on this show and when we saw at Christmas that they would be at the Ryman Auditorium, we got together with D's sister and her husband and got tickets.  If you aren't familiar with the Sing Off, it is a singing competition for acapella groups.  The things these folks can do with their voices are amazing.  You just have to listen.  This is one of our favorite groups, Home Free, singing "Ring of Fire."  Love.

Monday morning as we were heading back to Gainesville, we got the call that my mom had fallen.  Long story but she didn't break anything or hit her head but she did have a heart attack.  She stayed in the hospital until Friday and was then transferred to a rehab facility to regain her strength.  She'll be released from there on Sunday and come to stay at our house for awhile.  So it's been a crazy couple of weeks.  I had knee surgery last Friday, the 27th and I'm making progress.

So I think that catches up to April.  Today is a big day.  I can't wait to tell you about it.  And tomorrow's Easter.  He is Risen.  He is Risen indeed!

February 2015 (in April)

As you know, we are playing a little bit of a catch up game with the blog.  We are reliving the month of February today!

February started with a beautiful wedding right here in Gainesville on the 7th. The ceremony was at Grace Episcopal Church and reception at The Robson Center.   I was thrilled to coordinate this sweet family's special day.   I grabbed this photo off the photographer's website so I need to give a huge shout out to Kaylan Bradley of Happy Everything Photography.  She is awesome.  And aren't these fur stoles amazing and perfect for a February wedding?!

19

In January I wrote that  one of G's best friends had gone missing.  On February 8th, sadly, his friend's body was found.  To say that we were and still are heartbroken for his family is an understatement.  His loss is unimaginable.  He and G were super close in high school and he spent lots of time at our home.  When they both went to college, they continued their friendship and would see each other on breaks.  There wasn't a time that he came in our house that he didn't give me a bear hug.  He was a great young man.   G worked tirelessly when his friend went missing to find him.  We had hoped and prayed for another outcome.  G was asked to speak at the funeral and while it was extremely difficult, he did a great job honoring his buddy.  I just can't imagine the pain of losing a child.  Continued thoughts and prayers for his family.

So on Feburary 14th we left for a much needed and long anticipated cruise with some of our best friends.  They most recently moved to Florida from Atlanta and because we never get to see them, we were super excited about this trip!
D pulled off the BEST Valentine's Day ever!!! We flew into San Juan a day early to celebrate and then explore the island.  That was a great decision. Because you know I'm all about the food and drinks.  Here's our Valentine's Day in review.
Red and white sangria.  It was as good as it looked.

Honestly, I can't tell you what all this is but I do remember it was delicious.

This is the best rice and beans on the planet.  I'm sure of it.

San Juan we loved you.  We hope to see you again soon.
We cruised to St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Marteen.  All were fabulous but St. Marteen was our favorite.  Well, other than San Juan.

When you are on a cruise you usually don't get much cell phone service even when you dock.  However D couldn't stand it so he bought the limited service cell plan.  Imagine his surprise when he began to get texts and emails that there was a major ice storm in Gainesville and one of stores was without power.  Apparently, lots of places were without power.  However, it's a major thing when a grocery store is without power.  I'm sure no one that was involved in the process of pulling all of the refrigerated and frozen product from our Limestone store (except E) will ever read this but I just have to say they were rock stars.  They worked tirelessly to put all of that product on refrigerated trucks that were parked in the parking lot until the power was restored.  And then they put it all back in the store.  I just can't imagine the manpower that this project took.  D tried hard not to be distracted on the cruise once he realized all that was happening back home.   It was struggle for him, believe me.

This trip was the highlight of our month!  Good thing we went because March turned out to be quite the hard one.   More to come ...

I'm Back ... to January 2015!

No, this is not April Fools - I really am writing a blog post.  I just cannot tell you all that has happened in the almost 3 months since I last posted in January.  I tell you when that calendar rolls around to a new year, you really have no idea what that new year holds.  Thank the good Lord that He is beside us every step of the way.    Let me hit the highlights of January, February and March in the next few posts so then we can move on.

In January ...
1.  We went to the Governor's Inaugural Ball and it was so much fun!  Here's a few photos of the loves of my life.

That's Alan Jackson in that last picture.  Didn't know if you could pick him out!  :)

2.  We went on a little girls trip that next week to St. Simons.  And boy, oh boy, was that a fun weekend!  I adore these women.  And I love, love St. Simons' King and Prince, their shopping and last but never least, their food.  It's my happy place.

This might be one of the best things I've ever eaten, Eggs Low Country from the Echo Restaurant at the King and Prince.  Think shrimp, potatoes, corn, andouille sausage and a fried egg.  It was breakfast perfection.

3.  The weekend of the 24th and 25th found me at New Beginnings on Saturday and The 2015 Gainesville Bridal Expo on Sunday.  Both were fabulous days!
Here are few photos from the Bridal Show.  Emily and I, along with one of Emily's besties, Elisa, had a great time.  It's a crazy busy hectic day but in the end, totally worth it.  Many thanks to my buddies Mary and Judy for some amazing florals for all of our tables.  It takes a village to pull this off but we did it!

So that hits the high points for January.  February up next!!

January 2015

Hi All!

I thought I would share a few of things going on around here in January.  I'm off to the beach today with my mom, D, his mom and two of her sisters.  Over the course of the next few days, E and N will come down and so will G.  We'll kinda be in and out but that's okay.  We'll get to spend some quality time looking at the ocean and eating seafood. Thank you, Lord.  This has proved a good time for everyone to just relax and recharge after the holidays.

So let's see what else is going on during January ...
1.  On the 15th I'm super excited to begin a new Bible study, "Live a Praying Life."  I've done this Bible study before but it's so good and I definitely need a refresher.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what God has for me during the course of this study.
2.  The evening of the 15th is the Governor's Inauguration at The Gwinnett Center.  We were fortunate enough to be able to attend the Inauguration 4 years ago and we wouldn't miss this one. Super excited.  Biggest dilemma ... what to wear.  Seriously, men just put on their tuxedo or black suit and boom, they're done.  Us girls, we have to chose a dress, shoes, jewelry, handbag, etc.  We have hair issues, makeup issues ... it's all a little overwhelming.  But I'ma gonna go nonetheless.
3.  Over the MLK weekend, I'll head out for a little girlfriend getaway.  This is a much needed respite for one of our friends who has had a tough couple of months.  What better way to cheer someone up than to have a getaway with the girls?  Yep, I'm in.
4. On the 24th, we'll head up to New Beginnings to pamper the ladies there.  This is just such a blessing.  I love this day so much.  So thankful for our team and all of those who carve out time in their busy schedules to go and serve.
5.  On the 25th is the Gainesville Bridal Expo.  This is a huge day for us and lots of work.  But totally worth it.  We'll do a booth, Be Inspired Tables, host a fashion show and serve on a wedding professional panel discussion.  There is lots to be done.
6.  Along with all of this, I'll write two columns for The Times, one article for the Good Samaritan newsletter and make up to 30 recipes.

So that is what January looks like for me.  January typically is a sad month of us and we're glad when it's over.  D's dad died on the 5th; his birthday is on the 7th and my dad died on the 17th.  I try hard to honor their memory in all that I do.  They were two fine, fine men.  Two men that shaped me into the woman I am.  I am forever thankful that I was a part of both of their lives.

It's November 2014!

So let's talk a little about November.  I'm pretty sure that things are going to be a little slower for us than the past couple of months but we all know that we are going to be in full holiday mode this month so it's totally possible things might get crazy.

1.  Of course we began the month on Saturday with a big ole Georgia game that went south (literally) in a huge hurry.  Like I said in my last post, our whole little weekend vacay was great it just could have been better with a win.  But that's the way it goes.  In the words of Queen Elsa, we just have to Let It Go.  (Have you noticed it makes me feel better about the whole thing to tie my disappointment to popular songs?).  (I'm weird like that).

2.  On Monday, D and I took the grandmothers to Blue Ridge to see the new store.  He worked there while us girls took the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway trip.  Oh it was so fun.  We stopped in McCaysville for lunch.  Here are the girls - one in Georgia and one in Tennessee.  A great time was had by all.

To make a great trip even better, we stopped at Merceirs Orchards after and loaded up on caramel apples, apple pie, and apple butter.  Merceirs is a beautiful orchard with an equally beautiful bakery, store and tasting room (food and wine).  I'm pretty sure I could be happy there for the better part of a day.  To top off our day, I got a text from E that said "why don't y'all come to our house for supper?"   Why yes, we'd looove to!  E cooked up a delicious supper - a perfect ending to a great day!

3.  Tuesday, the 4th was Election Day in Georgia.  This was a huge day for us because of G's role in the whole election process this year.  We were sure we were headed for a run-off but thankfully, that didn't happen.  G has spent the last few days thanking his interns and volunteers, closing up his office and preparing to leave for Louisiana.  Yes, that's right, Louisiana.  It seems that they are in a run-off for a Senate seat there so being the good neighbor that we are, Georgia Republicans are sending their best and brightest off to work in LA.  G will be in Baton Rouge until mid-December.  Of course, the first thing this momma said was "congratulations, be safe and will you be home for Thanksgiving?"  The answer was yes, he can fly home for Thanksgiving.  Big prayers going out for my boy and this adventure.
On Tuesday night, G was with Gov. Deal in Atlanta and we were in a barn in Commerce with Gary Black.  Gary is a good friend and as you probably know was running for re-election as Georgia Agriculture Commissioner. (He won).   I don't think folks realize the importance of this job to our state.  Because we are in the grocery business we see first-hand how vital our Georgia farmers are to our economy and more importantly, how food safety impacts the lives of the people.  Folks, this is something that we take for granted but the Department of Agriculture does not.  They are serious about it and we should be thankful they are.  (I'll step down off my soapbox now!)
So, anyway, let's talk about the food we ate at this little soiree. (you should have known I would be all about the food).  It might have been the best I've ever eaten.  Seriously.  The meal was catered by Big Daddy.  Well, I had never heard of Big Daddy until Tuesday night but you better believe I won't forget him.  He totally rocked it.  But you know what rocked it more than that?  The desserts that Gary and Lydia's church folks provided.  Yep, that's right, the church cookers made the desserts.  I really shouldn't have to tell you anymore than that but I will ... let's just say there was a Caramel Cake with Caramel Icing that had mini-peanut butter cups in it.  Oh yes.  Then there was a Chocolate Layer Cake that had that cooked chocolate icing on it.  And there was a Banana Pudding with the prettiest meringue I have every seen.  And that's just three of about 30 desserts that were on that table.  If you know me at all, you know that I wanted to talk to each and every one of those church people and get their recipe.  It was the most amazing display of sweetness.  I wish I had taken a picture.

4.  This weekend we have been surrounded by the beauty of Callaway Gardens.  If you haven't been lately, you should really go.  This place is a forgotten treasure I think.  I know I forget about it until we get here and I realize how fabulous it is.  This weekend is the annual Board Retreat for the Georgia Food Industry Association.  D has been very involved in this organization for many years so it is a treat for us to go and spend time with industry folks who have become friends.

5.  Well, tomorrow I will embrace my civic responsibility and have jury duty.  Honestly, I know I probably should enjoy the process but I don't.  I'm just praying I don't get called to a jury.  I'll let you know how that goes.

6.  Saturday is our Big Family Tailgate at Georgia vs. Auburn!    We are hoping this is a game rather than a stompdown.  I know I shouldn't be so negative but I was at the Florida game, remember?  I'm a Dawg fan win or lose but it's just more fun when we win.  But we won't let anything dampen our Tailgate Day!  E and I have made our menu and if I do say so myself, it's the bomb.    More details to follow.

7.  Saturday is also this little squirt's due date.  Yes, our Sadie girl is going to be a momma.  When we went for our sonogram, he said he saw 4 little heartbeats but there could be more.  I can not wait to go and visit the maternity ward and hold her little babies.  Can you just imagine the cuteness?

Well, I think we'll just stop with that little cutie for now.   There's a lot more month left but let's talk later.    Happy November!

It's about Time I Posted Something!

Hey blog friends!
I'm sitting here in a hotel room in the beautiful Callaway Gardens Lodge and thought it was high time I hopped on this blog and started her up again.  Let me just tell you, I'm not at all sure where October went because it was a whirlwind of activity.  Let me hit the highlights:

1.  The first weekend in October started off with the daughter of a dear friend getting married.  Seriously, is this not perfection?

2.  On the 10th, my baby turned 25.  Let that sink in a minute.  My youngest is 25 years old.  Wow.  His schedule was crazy busy.  He was working 12 hour days, 7 days a week which didn't leave much time for our traditional birthday dinner.  So our celebration was Sunday brunch after church at o'Charleys.  You take it when you can get it.  Much love to my smart, funny, kind, and good-looking son.  Love you to the moon and back!
I looked on my phone to see if I had a recent photo (that he would approve of) and I don't.  So I lifted this one from his Facebook page.    This was taken last Tuesday night at Gov. Deal's Victory Party at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.  Let me brag on this one for a minute.  Like I said, he has worked tirelessly the last 4 months for the Republican Party.  He has done an amazing job and I was thrilled that his (and lots of others) hard work paid off with a win on Tuesday.  I don't want to go all political on you here but speaking for a family that works hard owning their own small, local business in the state of Georgia, this win is a very good thing.  We are most thankful.
Have mercy, I may be a little biased but is he handsome or what?

3.  So on October 18th we officially purchased another grocery store in Blue Ridge, Georgia.  This beautiful mountain town has part of my heart now.  The people there are just as good as gold and have welcomed us with open arms.  We could not be more pleased to be a part of this great community.  On a personal note, D, E and I spent 10 days during the store set up and opening at an amazingly beautiful home on Lake Blue Ridge.  This home belongs to the family of one of my dearest friends and we are more than thankful that they graciously opened their home to our family during this time.  Let me just say I think I could stay here forever ...

4.  The following weekend was the wedding of another dear friend's daughter.  Do you see why I love my job so much?  I get to be a part of one amazing celebration after another.  This wedding was in Athens at The Foundry Inn, which by the way, is now called The Graduate Inn (new owners). Anyway, this wedding was absolutely gorgeous.  If you would like to take a look at all the beautiful, go here

 5.  And then .... last weekend was the Georgia/ Florida game.  We left on Thursday and headed to our spot on Amelia Island.  We have found that staying away from the crazy in Jacksonville and staying in the beauty of Amelia is the way to go.  Usually we go with our children and enjoy a little family vacay but neither of them could go.  Life and jobs got in the way this year.  So we went with some good friends and while I missed my little family like crazy, we had a great time.  Except for the actual game that I'm still not able to talk about. Everything else ... great.  The game ... painful to watch.  In the infamous words of T. Swift, we've just got to Shake It Off.
To say that Jacksonville weather is unpredictable, is an understatement.  Don't let these beautiful blue and sunny skies fool you.  It was cold and windy.  Whew.  But always a good time.

A little ballgame selfie ...

And because this is one of my favorite family photos of all time, let's throwback to Georgia/Florida 2013 ...

Well, that just about wraps up October 2014.  Now we're on to November.  Christmas is right around the corner - Wow!

It's September 2014!

So... I spent all last week at the beach.  And it was glorious.  The weather was beautiful (and HOT), the sand was like powdered sugar and the water, oh the water, was clear and the most beautiful shades of blue and green I've ever seen.  We were in Siesta Key which is down near Sarasota.  I highly recommend it.  It is gorgeous!

We drove back on Friday and got into town just in time to go to the grocery store to pick up a few things for Saturday and then headed to one of our local high schools.  It was the first night under the "Friday Night Lights" and we were thrilled to be invited by a very special young man to see him perform for the first time in his high school's marching band.  You know, when a 15 year old invites a couple of 50 year olds to see him doing something with this High School, we had to be sure we didn't miss it.   He did great and we were so glad we were there.

After leaving there, we came back home to assemble all of our tailgate supplies because I'm not sure if you know but Saturday was  the GEORGIA'S FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON!    I will be talking more about this later in the week but to say that we had a great time tailgating with E and N and then a fabulous time watching Georgia tromp all over Clemson, well, that's an understatement.  I honestly thought that when D walked in Sanford Stadium and sat down 32 rows above the 49-yard line (thank you CC!) that he was going to  just fall out.  It was a great day!

Okay, so here is what I think about the first day of September .... Yay!  WooHoo!  WOOP! WOOP!  Y'all seriously, it's the beginning of FALL!!  I can hardly contain my excitement about this time of the year.  I.  love.  it.  September is going to be super busy for us but we are good with it and have been preparing for it.

Here's what's on the Agenda:
1.  This weekend we are going to St. Simons.  Several months ago we went to the Gateway House Gala and I walked away from our table for 30 seconds and when I got back, D had "bought" this weekend during the Live Auction.  We love St. Simons and are really looking forward to being on the Golden Isles this weekend.
2.  Next week our Birthday Group will be hosting a Bridal Shower for a very special young lady, one of our own Birthday Girl's daughter.  We've watched this girl grow into a beautiful young lady - what a blessing.  So excited to be celebrating with a shower and then her wedding next month!
3.  On Saturday, the 13th, I am so looking forward to attending Beth Moore's simulcast at Blackshear Place Church with 2 of my best buddies.  I've seen Beth in personal several times and each time it's been a spiritual life changer.  Even though she won't be live for this event, I can't imagine that her message will be any less impactful.  Prayerfully preparing now for the word she will bring.
4.   On Sunday, the 14th, D and I will be hosting our Sunday School class at the Farm for our Fall Get Together.  Praying for the weather to cool off just a touch so it will seem like fall in the mountains.
5.  On Saturday the 20th I'm blessed to be a part of a very special girl's Wedding Day.  We've been planning this day for months and it's almost here!  Looking forward to a great weekend of celebrating Matt and Whitley!
6.  On Sunday, the 21st our good friends from Illinois are coming to stay for the week.  These folks were both in our wedding and here we are 30 years later, still friends.  Even though we've lived 8 hours apart for all of these years, we still feel like family.  So looking forward to being with these precious friends.
7.  On Tuesday, the 23rd, I'll slip out from our visit to speak to the Golden Nuggets group at our church.  This is the vibrant group of "seniors" ( of which I will qualify to be a member in November - age 55, you know) who meet once a month in our Fellowship Hall for lunch.   I have no idea what I'm going to talk about yet.  I'm hoping it comes to me soon.  :)
8.  September 27th is D's Birthday.  Several months ago when the Georgia schedule came out I immediately looked to see if we are playing at home on his birthday and we are.  So I sent texts to the kids telling them that we all needed to be in Athens together on that day because D's birthday + Georgia Football = A Perfect Family Day for us.   It was all set.  Then we heard that D's cousin is getting married that day and we really can't miss it.  The wedding is at 3:30 in Watkinsville.  We are hoping for a late game (they haven't set the time yet because of tv schedules) so we can go to the wedding and then to the game.  However, it won't be a big Birthday Celebration for my sweet husband like we planned.  However, a birthday celebration will happen, just not on the 27th.

And that my friends, is an overview of our month.  This doesn't include bride's meetings, committee meetings, Bible study, prayer groups and a host of other fabulous things that my life includes.  So let's set back and enjoy the ride.  Life is good!

Goals, I Have Them

So you know last month, I thought it might be fun to set a few goals because that's my personality and I'm a planner and... it is a goal of mine to set monthly goals.   So now it's time to re-evaluate those goals and set some new ones for August.

First things first, evaluate the July Goals:
1.  Read 2 books.  I told y'all this would be an easy one.  I actually read 5 books (I'm an over-achiever in this category).  I read:  "On Folly Beach" by Karen White;  "Bridge to Haven" by Francine Rivers; 3.  "The House on Mermaid Point" by Wendy Wax; 4. "One Lavender Ribbon" by Heather Burch and 5.  "Rhinestone Jesus" by Kristen Welch.  All very, very different books.  All very good.  I especially loved "Rhinestone Jesus."  It will challenge, inspire and cause you to evaluate your God-sized dreams.
2.  Try a restaurant we've never tried before.  I told y'all by the 4th we had already checked this one off when we ate at Six Feet Under in Atlanta.  We will go back.  It was awesome.
3.  Go on a picnic with D.  Well, sorta.  We ate a tomato sandwich on the tailgate of his truck at the farm.  Does this count?  I say yes.  It's not really the romantic expectation I had in my head but sometimes your expectation doesn't line up with your reality and because of that we might tend to be disappointed.  I'm not.  D and I ate food outside together.   That's a picnic if you ask me.
4.  Buy a few Christmas gifts.  Fail.  I didn't do it.  Next month.
5.  Create my recipe plan for Cooking with Crevolyn for the rest of the year.  Done!  Bam!

So onto August Goals.
1.  Read 2 Books.  Is it a goal if you know you'll most likely accomplish it?  I'm not going to overthink it and just do it.
2.  Set aside a day for rest and prayer.  I have a date on the calendar for this.
3.  Complete the update of our Wonderful Events website.  This has been a work in progress.  I'm hoping to have it all completed by the end of this month.
4.  Buy a few Christmas gifts.  I'm not giving up on this one.
5.  Blog more.  I have to be intentional about this for sure.  Even if it's just a little bit I think it is important for my mental health to have this outlet.  I just have to take this time for myself.  You know they say that goals have to measurable so I'll aim for 5 of 7 days of the week for August.  So far so good!  :)

What I Love about August 2014

First of All ... don't y'all love my new blog template?!  I've been trying to change it for forever (I mean, we all do love Christmas but keeping it on the blog year round got a little old) but just couldn't figure out how to get it to work.  So I called in my technical team (yes, E) and she fixed on the first try!  Of course she did.  Anyway, many thanks to my IT-E Department for this new look!

Okay, ya'll, it's August.  So that means we need to check in to see what's on the agenda this month.

1.  Yesterday, was the 1st and it started off in a fabulous fashion.   I spent the morning with my sweet Momma and then had lunch with one of my favorite friends of.all.time, JH.  I know she is one of about 5 of my regular readers of this blog so shout out to my girl!  We had a wonderful lunch at Mellow Mushroom (public service announcement: their bruschetta, spinach artichoke dip and Caesar salad are my new favorite food) and then headed to an undisclosed location for a little planning.  In the one in a million chance that this blog might catch the eye of the right person, I'll share details of this top secret mission later in the month.  Stay tuned for tons of fun with this.

2.  The 10th of August will mark the Birthday of the Best Momma in the World. Yes, Jeannie will be 89!  Wow!  Can't wait to celebrate her.   She's the best.  She and I took a road trip to St. Simons last week and just had the best time.  Because everybody's doing it, here's our selfie: ha!

3.  We are looking forward to a wonderful wedding day for a sweet bride of ours on the 16th.  A bride getting married in our home church is always a thrill for us and we are so looking forward to all this Wedding Weekend has in store.  It's going to be crazy fun!

4.  On the 18th I have set aside a day of rest and prayer.  I'll probably need it after that Big Wedding on the 16th!  I'll head to the farm to just take a break from the world and listen.

5.  Then on the 23rd, D and I will take his momma on a little beach trip to Siesta Key, one of our favorite beaches.  The sand is like sugar.  It's a beautiful thing.

6.  But not to worry, because we will be back in plenty of time for the First Day of Georgia Football on August 30th!!  After all, we've been waiting nine months for this.  Yes, it will probably be 150 degrees in Athens Georgia on this date but we don't care.  I am already working on my tailgate menu and will be fully prepared for all the fun when this day comes.  We can hardly wait!  It truly is the most wonderful time of the year!!

7.  I know this is August and I'm supposed to be looking forward but I've got to go back one day and tell you about my Thusday, July 31st.  Because this day will go down in history as one of my favorite days .... ever.   Two of my best girlfriends and I headed down to the Mart in Atlanta.  Otherwise known as the Shopping Capital of the World, City within Itself and pretty much, a Happy Place like no Other.  You get the picture.  We had the best time.  We loaded up on clothes, purses and the biggest pile of jewelry bling you've ever seen in your life.  We really didn't want this dream day to end so we stopped at the Cheesecake Factory on the way home because after all it was National Cheesecake Day and all of their slices were 1/2 price.  Well, duh and of course.  We ate off of the Skinnylicious menu because that's what you would do if you know you are going to top off this meal with a slice of heaven in the form of S'mores Cheesecake.  See what I mean.  I have no more words.

July Goals!

So I read a lot of blogs.  I love blogs because it gives you a peek into somebody's life.  May be the reason you're reading ... maybe?  It's okay, I totally get it.  So one blogger that I love has started doing monthly goals.  I'm a goal-oriented person so this speaks right to my heart.  So I thought maybe I should make monthly goals as a way to hold myself accountable.  Sounds reasonable, right?  I'll be honest.  Some are going to be easy to keep and some, not so much.  I know enough from business school that goals need to be measurable and attainable.  I'm only going to do 5 or less per month and then we'll evaluate my success on the last day of the month.

Goal #1: Read 2 books this month.  Thought I would start off with one I could keep. ha!   I love to read!!   I'll be spending a few days vacationing this month so that means I'll be reading.  Even if I'm not vacationing, I'm reading.  So this one for me ... easy.  I might share what I'm reading here over the course of the month.

Goal #2:  Try a restaurant with Darrell that we've never been to before.  I think this will be fun!  I've already got a list started.

Goal #3:  Go on a picnic with Darrell.  You know, July should be the month of all months that we go on a picnic.  We're going to do it.

Goal #4: Start buying a few Christmas gifts.  I say this every year and by golly, this year I'm going to do some early shopping.  Because I told you I was.  See?  makes me accountable.

Goal #5:   Because July is a laid back month for me by intention, I use it for planning and gearing up for the rest of the year.  So something I want to accomplish is to set up my recipe plan for Cooking with Crevolyn for the rest of the year.  I usually do this twice a year, creating weekly plans for ideas for recipes.   So now is the time.

Okay, I'll be back at the end of the month to report.

What I Love about July 2014

What  a better day to start blogging again than July 1st!  We are halfway through 2014 - can you believe it? The first half of 2014 has flown by with a flurry.  It seems that the older I get the faster time goes.

So before I tell you what I love about 2014, I've got to tell you how today started.  So, I usually get up and shower, do my makeup, roll my hair and then get dressed, all before I take the puppies out.  They are content to lay on the bed and watch me get ready in the bathroom.  This morning I get to this point in my "getting ready process" and then take the dogs out to potty.  As I'm walking around the front yard, waiting patiently for them to do their business, I fall in a little hole.  And twist my ankle.  Fall rear first in the wet grass.  As I regain my senses, I realize that my hair rollers have gone flying across the front yard upon impact.  The dogs sense that I might be hurt (thankfully, I'm not) so they are on top of me ... howling.  Not just quietly, bless them, but howling loudly.  It's really sweet when I think about it but at the time all I could think about is how could anything else draw more attention to me that two dogs pushing me to the wet ground, on top of me, howling on the top of their lungs.  Oh my word.  Swallowing any pride I have left, I assure them that I'm okay, hoping they will hush.  They haven't had a chance to potty yet so I have to stay out there and wait, quietly praying that no one drives by or looks out their window.    It's not like I can make a run to the house at this point.  All of this to say, it was quite the sight.  I had to go in and change clothes and redo my hair but on the bright side, I am not injured, not physically any way.

Okay, on to the happenings of July, 2014.
Note:   July is a slower month for me on purpose.  The wedding business side of my life is crazy during the spring and fall.  I usually try to take a little break in July because I know what the fall looks like.  And this year is no exception.  However, the Cooking with Crevolyn side of my life continues on ... cooking, blogging and writing for the newspaper.   But the month of July is a good time for me to use some extra time for planning ahead for both jobs and for life in general.  Therefore, I love July.  So this list is going to short because as far as major events, we don't have many scheduled.  We like the lazy days of summer around here.
1.  On Thursday, D and I along with his mom will head down to Atlanta to spend the night so D can be close to the action for the Peachtree Road Race.  E and N will come down to join the running fun.  I will be content to cheer them on.  After the race we will head north to Tennessee for a visit with D's sister and her family for the weekend.   So the 4th will be spent running, riding and hopefully reveling in some fireworks fun somewhere along the way.
2.  We'll barely get our bags unpacked before we repack for our annual trip to the Georgia Food Industry's convention, this year held at The Plantation at Amelia Island.  This is honestly one of my favorite things we do all year.  While it's a working trip for D and E, I have a great time visiting with friends, sitting by the pool, eating in great restaurants, shopping, and relaxing.  I know, I feel kinda bad. A little bit.  :)
3.  Later in the month, I'm going to take my Momma on a little road trip.  We'll be gone 3 or 4 days to a location that is yet to be determined.  She did, however, remind me that she has a bathing suit and cover up that fit and that she's not afraid to wear it.  Is that not hilarious?  I think we'll definitely go somewhere she can sport that suit and cover-up!

And that, my friends, is about it for major things in July.  See what I mean? I just love it.  Just normal everyday work things with some fun thrown in along the way.

Now, I'm off to get groceries for some upcoming recipes and to nurse my wounded ego.

Happy July!

What I Love about April 2014!

Spring is in the Air!  What a wonderful time of year!  As I am writing this, there are a couple of guys working hard planting some new plants in my front yard.  To be totally transparent, this yard has always been a little point of contention with me and my husband.  Since our home is cottage style, I think the yard should reflect that with its plantings.  But since my husband is a much more stream-lined and clean-lines type of person, he doesn't see the need.  So guess what? a month ago, he had the yard guys pull up every single plant in the front and back of our white fence.  Not one was left.  Honestly, I about had a heart attack and a few tears.  But you know, marriage is all about compromise and not killing the other one, so after I let it be known that I in no way, no how approved of this plan, I have kept my mouth shut.  Just for the record, he did consult a professional who didn't take the time to even make a decent plan, sold him the plants and now it looks less than pleasing.  I'm sorry I'm venting.  Enough about that.  Happy Spring!

Let's talk about April:
1.  This afternoon, D and I will be going to one of my favorite places in the north Georgia mountains, Montaluce Winery.  As you might remember, E and I have been doing weddings up there for years.  The winery, restaurant and vineyards are stunning.  It's a little slice of Italy right smack dab in the middle of Lumpkin County.  We are going for a business meeting so it's not totally for pleasure but I sure do plan to enjoy it.
2.  Last night was the Season Opener for the Braves.  Next week is the home opener in Atlanta.  I love baseball (not as much as college football for the record) because it seems to signify the beginning of spring and summer.  I also know that it signifies the beginning of every night watching them on television because they will play 1,242 games between now and October.  Did you know that they play.every.single.night?  Oh I kid.  The best thing about the Braves playing is the conversation that it sparks between D and G.  They will now begin their nightly discussions of pitching rotations, batting averages and what the future will hold for the Braves with a new mega-stadium and mini-city in 2017.
3.  This Saturday kicks off our 2014 Wedding Season.  For the past several years, March has been a busy wedding month but we didn't have a single wedding in March, which is a good thing because I about worked myself silly with other projects.  But now onto weddings, woohoo!  Saturday's wedding is at the Chattahoochee Country Club and it should be picture perfect.
4.  Next week is Spring Break week for those who are teachers and/or have school-age children.  My life doesn't revolve around that anymore; however, I have several friends whose does.  So I am taking the opportunity one day next week to do some lunching and shopping with a few of them in Atlanta.
5.  Every 2nd and 4th Monday of each month I am blessed to be turning in a article for The Times to run on the following Wednesdays.  So this week, I'll be busy trying to put some sentences together to come up with something that makes a beans worth of sense and might be interesting to a reader.  It's a little harder than it might sound.
6.  We think that our Kirky girl is with child, children .. or puppies, more appropriately.  We go for a sonogram next week to be sure.  Seriously, it that not awesome?  I missed the sonogram with her first pregnancy so I'm not missing this one for anything.  I wish they would give us photos like they do with people sonograms.
7.  Saturday the 12th is our girl and her sweet husband's 6th wedding anniversary.   I can hardly believe it's been that long since we were on our own wedding planning journey.  What a joy it was.  I am so thankful that E found the man who makes her so happy.
8.  Saturday the 12th is also the G-Day Game for those of us who follow the Dawgs; want to spend a beautiful spring day in Athens; and/or go to the Ground House Burgers for lunch.  (G went to Ground House and says it was the best burger he has ever had.  He recommends the one with fried green tomatoes on it.  Yes, please and thank you.)
9.  The last Saturday of the month is the wedding of a long time friend. She has been a blessing to me for many years.   To say that I adore her and her precious family is a understatement of mammoth proportions.  The wedding is on the lakeside-lawn of our family friends and the bride's aunt.  We are in prayer now for a beautiful spring day.
10.  I love the Easter season so when we begin talking about Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and of course, Easter services at church, my heart stirs.  How great is our God that He died and rose again so that we could have eternal life.  Oh, the emotions ... tears at the pain He endured; wonderment at the resurrection and shouts of joy for the hope of eternity in His presence.  Amen and amen.

What I Love about March 2014

So March.  Here we are.  Already two months of 2014 in the books and wow, it's already been a fun ride.  Life is just an interesting journey every day, isn't it?  How we get to where we are never ceases to amaze me.  What you thought you would be doing last year at this time is in no way sometimes where we are today.   I know, some days stink.  (trust me, I've had the stomach virus since Saturday. I know all too well).  But most days are just the best combination of fun, work, life-giving to others and learning.  My precious father-in-law taught me years ago to never stop learning.  There is just so little that I know.   Yes, some days I think I know it all but I guarantee that's so not the case.  So the point? Never ever stop learning.  I've even been reading about Russia and Ukraine today trying to figure out what's going on over there.  Have mercy, this is a great big world.

I was so looking forward to last Saturday to have a few hours at home to catch up on some much needed housework, bills, etc.  You know, that usual Saturday stuff.  However, my plans changed when a friend called to ask me to go with her to see something fun.  Of course, I'll go.  Then G says, let's go to Dawsonville to the Outlet Mall and do a little shopping.  And let's call Nana to go with us.  And then let's call Dad to meet us for supper.  And oh, let's take Sadie because I don't want to leave her by herself all evening.  Now, seriously, how could I refuse that offer?  Well, okay.  That trumps housework any ole day.  So that's how March started off but then it. hit.  You know. It.  The dreaded stomach virus. So I stayed in bed for the next two days.  I got out last night for the first time since Saturday.  Today, I'm still not feeling great but much better.  Having something like that makes you realize just how much you appreciate your health.  Thank you Lord for healing and feeling good!

So that bring us to today and what I LOVE about March, 2014!
1.  The Big Green Egg cooking class at Cook's Warehouse last night was awesome.  So pretty much this is my new favorite thing.  If you can't find me, please just call any Cook's Warehouse location and I'll be there.  A little back story ... when choosing Christmas gifts for family members these days, we like to do "experiences."  Like D got me the Jennifer Nettles tickets for last month's concert, I got him Big Green Egg cooking lessons at Cook's Warehouse.  We don't need much stuff.  We just like to do things together.  Honestly, I wasn't at the top of my eating game to enjoy all of the delicious things he cooked on the Egg but everyone else seemed to enjoy it.  And we learned a lot.  Even though I didn't feel great, I sure got excited about the dessert he made on the BGE.  He took Granny Smith Apples, cut them in half and cored them.  Then added a fun-size Snickers bar and smushed in the spot where the core was.  Laid them in an aluminum pan.  Then took panko crumbs and Parmesan cheese and sprinkled over them.  Then drizzled with butter and put those on the Egg for about 20 minutes.  Judging by my husband and everyone else's reaction in the class, he pretty much created a dessert they'll serve in heaven.  I can't wait to try it.
2.  Tonight is our Family Birthday Celebration for E's 28th Birthday!  Traditionally this is when I cook E's favorite things and everyone comes to our house for dinner.  But since the plague hit me, we are going to go to Plan B.  Some sweet person in a restaurant is going to cook for us and make E feel special instead of me.  Honestly, I'm thinking next week (when hopefully I can eat more than a popsicle),  I'll cook up her favorite meal.  I just can't stand not cooking for my girl.
3.  Friday, March 7th, E will officially be 28 years old.  I'm just not sure where the time has gone.  What a blessing she is.  We are headed to Athens for a little family fun (I'll share more about that later - I told you that our gifts these days are experiences) on Friday evening.  Can't wait to celebrate her special day!
4.  Saturday is New Beginnings Day!  This rolls around about every quarter and I couldn't be more excited to go see our friends there and love on them awhile.
5.  Wednesday, the 12th, I'll speak to the Commerce Club.  Our date last month was cancelled because of the snow event.  Of course, I was going to speak last month about Valentine's Day but I'm pretty sure that is old news now.  I think we'll talk about Spring.  That's a wonderful subject!
6.  Next Friday, the 14th, we'll head to Illinois for our dear friends' son who will be getting married.  We've been gone from Illinois for almost 30 years but have been lost touch with special friends.  We're so excited to be getting to be a part of this very special time for them.
7.  On the 19th, I'll take the speaking platform again ... at Brenau University.  I'll be speaking to Bruce Burch's event planning class. I'm really look forward to being in the college setting again.   It's always interesting to get a bunch of college students opinion on what you're doing.
8.  Tis the season for showers.  I have three to attend in the next two weeks but what a joy to celebrate brides and babies.
9.  Wedding season is in full swing as we have two weddings in April and one in May.  So lots of planning meetings, tastings and paperwork is going on right now for those.  What a blessing to continue to be able to do what I love in the wedding business.
10.  My daddy would have been 90 on March 9th.  I can't say much about this.  I already have big tears in my eyes.  I just can't imagine how much he would have enjoyed being a part of what is happening in our lives, especially E and G.  He was always my biggest cheerleader.  Honestly, I can see him now, getting out of his car in his coveralls, checking everything in my yard to see if anything needed to be fixed or painted; walking into my garage to see if my car needed anything done to it (he was a mechanic by trade) and then in my house asking for a cup of coffee ... before he started any of those so-called projects that needed  to be done.  What a wonderful man he was.  I miss him every single day.  Happy Birthday, Daddy.  Love, your baby girl.

February 2014!

What I love about February, 2014!

Here is what the month of February holds for me.

1. We have been blessed in the past few weeks to become part of several brides wedding planning. I just cannot tell you how much I love these precious girls. One is a long-time friend who has found her true love a little later in life. Now, don’t get me wrong I love these young brides but to plan with one who is a little older is different and refreshing. I have several meeting this week with the sweetest moms and daughters that I can hardly wait to get started!

2. For Christmas, D gave E and I gift certificates to a local spa. So this Friday afternoon is our Spa Date and it can’t get here soon enough. This old girl is going to enjoy every single minute of it.

3. On Sunday afternoon, E is giving a baby shower for a very special friend. Well, you know me, I love nothing more than planning a happy party so I’m excited to be helping E with this time to welcome a new blessing!

4. On Sunday evening, our Sunday School class will get together to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a Breakfast For Supper Social. I adore this group of folks and am really looking forward to this time together.

5. On the 12th, I’ll be the featured speaker for this month’s meeting of the Commerce Club. I’m a member of this group of ladies which makes this a little more nerve racking. Always harder to speak to a group of your peers than to total strangers.

6. For Valentine’s weekend, D and I are going up to the Dillard House Inn in Clayton for a little weekend getaway. Rest, relaxation, no work, good food and most importantly time with my man: yes, please and thank you.

7. The following weekend, I’m excited to participate in a Women’s Weekend Intensive Bible Study at our Church. This should be a wonderful time of worship, study and fellowship. I’m so thankful for women who follow God’s calling to teach and share. This will be a Friday evening and Saturday event.

8. I’ll scoot out of our Bible study on Saturday afternoon and head to Atlanta with D for an evening with Jennifer Nettles at The Fox. This was another one of my fabulous Christmas gifts from D for which I am so very thankful.

9. On the 26th, I have the honor to speak to the South Hall Kiwanis. Goodness knows what I am going to say to all of these people.

I love February. It’s a great opportunity to show the ones you care about just how much you love them. Enjoy this month. Oh, and by the way, it's Heart Awareness Month. Please consider your heart health when making food choices (low fat, low sodium, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables) and maybe get out and exercise that heart muscle a little. One of every four deaths in the U.S. is a result of heart disease making it the leading cause for women and men. Let's take care of our hearts!

It's February 2nd, 2014!

Y’all I really do think about writing on this blog every single day but somehow the days go by and it doesn’t happen. On January 1st, I thought okay, new year, great time to post on the blog and now it’s February. How did that happen anyway? So far, we are two days into this month and I have loved every single minute of it. January, traditionally, has not been a great month for our family so once it ends, I’m kinda relieved. January was super busy and culminated with two big events on the last weekend: a large catering job for First Baptist Church’s Women’s Retreat on Saturday and the Bridal Expo on Sunday. It was an amazing weekend and everything went off without a hitch. But whew, I’m glad it’s a success in the rear view mirror.

So February the love month. Let’s talk about it. Well, let’s start with Friday, which was technically January 31st. We went out on the town with some friends for pizza and salad at one of favorite local restaurants, Atlas Pizza and then onto the movies. We saw, “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.” And it was about 10 kinds of good. Based on a Tom Clancey novel, it had action, suspense, and a really good plot. I loved it.

And speaking of movies I love, everyone should go see “Frozen,” no matter what your age. It is absolutely the most beautifully animated movie with the best soundtrack I think I have ever seen and heard. It’s amazing. It’s worth your time and hard-earned money.

So back to the weekend. On Saturday night, one of G’s high school buddies was coming through Athens. His band, The Dirty Bourbon River Show, was opening for another band, The Soul Rebels at The Melting Point. So D and I headed down to meet G and a few of his friends there. Both of these bands originate in New Orleans. Why does it seem great music just comes out of New Orleans naturally. Is it because Harry Connick, Jr. is from New Orleans and he is beyond amazing? (I could chase yet another rabbit here and tell you that he, along with his chemistry with Jennifer and Keith have totally renewed my faith in American Idol but I’ll save that commentary for another day). Anyway, in my mind New Orleans = great music. These two bands did not disappoint. And why do I love bands with horns so much? I’ll tell you of all the wedding bands, I’ve ever heard (and I have heard a bunch of wedding bands), hands down, the best ones have horn sections. So suffice it to say, this old married couple was out on the town two nights in a row and could not have been happier about it.

So that brings us to today, Groundhog Day and Super Bowl Sunday. Would you believe that I actually saw a real live groundhog on Friday morning? The segment before mine on the radio was with the local community zoo up in White County and they were live in the studio with a groundhog. He was pretty cute for a rodent. I didn’t get too close because I was wearing a sweater with a fur collar and I was afraid he would think we were of like kind and who knows what would have happened. Apparently Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow which means we’ll have six more weeks of winter. I’m beginning to think that groundhogs might know more about the weather than the weather folks. That remains to be seen. So after church, we headed home to prepare for our Super Bowl watching festivities which all that really means is that I started cooking a few goodies. We had chili, chicken wings/drumettes, Huddle Up Dip, chips and chocolate chip cookies. It was a football feast in our eyes. I do have a few observations about this Big Game:

1. I really like Peyton Manning (and all of those Mannings for that matter) so I hated for the Broncos to lose. But great day, had they ever played football together before? I’ve never seen a professional football team fall so flat.

2. I thought Bruno Mars did a fabulous job for the halftime show. I was reading in Sports Illustrated this week about the history of the halftime show and the challenges the producers face. It’s been 10 years since the Wardrobe Malfunction. Can you believe it? It seems like yesterday.

3. I had great expectations for the commercials because you would think that paying millions of dollars for 30 seconds of air time would raise the bar. Apparently not. I have never been so disappointed in Super Bowl commercials in all my life. I was super hyped for the Full House reunion. That was a fail. There was but one memorable commercial and it will come as no surprise that it involved the Clydesdales and puppies. Budweiser is not stupid, my friends.

4. Maserati was one of the official sponsors of the Super Bowl. Does it seem strange to anyone else that a company whose least expensive car is $65,000 sponsors the Super Bowl? I’m thinking Doritos and Coke are great s sponsors because most of the folks watching the Super Bowl are like me, they are eating chips and drinking a diet Coke sitting on their couch in their stretch pants. They aren’t thinking, doggone, I was going to go and get me one of those Maseratis this afternoon but ran out of time. But then again, I don’t really run with a lot of folks who drive Maseratis so what do I know. Maybe some people really think that.

The absolute best part of the game was watching it with the whole family. We had such a great time! Perfect ending to a great weekend!

What I Love about October 2013

Love, love, love October.  It's one of my favorite months of the year.  Here's what I'm looking forward to this October.

1.  This first beautiful weekend of October finds us working a wedding which we love to do.  This beautiful bride lives in California but will come back to her hometown to wed the man of her dreams.  I can hardly wait to see this wedding unfold.

2.  Sunday morning, D and I, along with another couple, will fly to the great state of Texas for what we are calling our "Taste of Texas Tour."  That's right, friends and neighbors, we are eating our way through Texas.  We are all four big foodies so we had the idea to visit the restaurants recommended by food guru, Guy Fieri of Diner, Drive-in and Dives fame on the Food Network.  We have tracked down all of his recommendations in the great cities of Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and South Padre Island.  We actually have an eating itinerary.  Let the fun begin!

3.  On October 10th, my baby will turn 24 years old!  What a joy this child is to me, his dad and our family.   Love you bunches, G!

4.  On the 15th, Mother and I will take a day trip with one of the local banks up in the mountains.  We'll visit a winery for a tasting (at 10:00 in the morning no less); eat lunch at Glen Ella Springs and stop at a local pottery.  Yes, I'm pretty sure you're officially old when you start taking day excursions on buses.  But that's okay, Mother is beyond excited.

5.  On the 19th, we'll see one fabulous couple get married!  We have loved the planning with this sweet bride and groom.  This one is going to be amazing!

6.  On the 20th, a local church has asked me to join them for an author event they are holding in conjunction with their Sunday morning services.  I haven't quite come to terms with the whole "author" thing since my book is a cookbook.  I'm honored that they thought to invite me.  I'm so looking forward to it.

7.  Oh, that reminds me.  The cookbooks are scheduled to arrive the week of October 14th.  I'm excited and nervous.

8.  On the 25th,  a friend and I are heading down to Stone Mountain for the Country Living Fair.  I have wanted to go to this for years.  I have no idea what kind of treasures we might find but I can hardly wait to begin the hunt.

9.  For some the 31st means Halloween.  For our family, it means we leave to go to the Georgia Florida game for the weekend!  Go Dawgs!

10.  Our oldest furry girl is with child so we are anxiously anticipating the arrival of little furry babies the end of this month.  We go for a sonogram in two weeks.  I cannot wait to see what a doggie sonogram even looks like. This is so exciting!

Happy October!!

It's September 2013

Y’all, you may be wondering why I don’t post on this blog much anymore.  Well, what just happened is why.  I’ve been writing a post for over an hour and it’s gone! Poof!  It is so frustrating and it’s not the first time this has happened.  I’m guessing I could go to another blog whatever but then there’s that the whole learning curve thing.  It’s a dilemma.    But I won’t let this ole internet get me so I’m going to persevere and write it again.    Here goes…

September 2013 – What’s not to love?

1.        Last night D and I went down to Chateau Elan to see The Jesters perform.  Word is that was their last performance and if so, they went out in style.  We danced until midnight, were exhausted when we got home but honestly, I don’t know when we’ve had more fun!  Thank you, Jesters for many wonderful years of good music.

2.       September officially marks the first full month of college football! Can I get an amen?  This is something our family might have looked forward to for, oh maybe, eight months.  G and D made their way to Death Valley at Clemson University early Saturday morning and returned early Sunday morning.  While they didn’t bring home a win, they did bring home some good memories.  They laughed, they cheered, they ate, they made friends with folks with big screens, they walked many miles, and they had a great time together.  It’s really just a game but those memories, well, they will last forever.

3.       Today is Labor Day and while some get a respite from their labors, that just doesn’t happen in the Wiley family.  But that’s okay.  We’ve learned to take days off and vacations when others don’t.  It’s just the nature of the grocery store beast.  We might go see some fireworks tonight because our regularly scheduled fireworks on July 4th were cancelled because of the summer-2013-that-never-really-was-summer-because-it-rained-all-the-time.  This ole girl’s not complaining though.  I have my own personal summer, if you know what I’m saying and that is enough for one person.  Whew.

4.       September holds a beautiful wedding for Wonderful Events.  This couple is getting married the middle of the month at Smithgall Woods.  This could not be a more beautiful, natural spot to tie the knot.  We are so looking forward to it.

5.       The Birthday Girls will get back together at my house this month.  It’s been a long dry spell as far as us getting together so I'm really excited about this.  I've missed them!  I’m so looking forward to night of constant chatter and laughter!

6.       Cooking with Crevolyn is poised to make a big announcement this month.  One that E and I have been working on diligently for a while.  I am super excited about this!  So the fall will be full of fun things!

7.       My sweet husband has a birthday the end of the month and we’ll be celebrating in Chattanooga!  We’ll take a long weekend to celebrate him and attend the wedding of some of our precious friends’ son and his beautiful fiancĂ©e.  We are so looking forward to staying at the ChooChoo and enjoying all the city has to offer.

Well, I think I’ll just end on seven.  That seems like the perfect number.  J  There are lots of things happening this month and hopefully, I’ll jump back on here to update.  In the meantime, happy September and Go Dawgs!
