Day 5: Bibles and Books - My Favorites!
Okay, you all know I love me a great Bible and some books. I'm just going to give you a few gift ideas based on my own opinion. You know now that I think about it I guess that everything on this blog is ... based on my own opinion. But somehow when it comes to a Bible and books, that is really personal so I guess I should say, based on my own taste. So sorry for the over explanation. Not only am I an over-sharer, I'm an over-explainer, too. It's a really dangerous combination.
Allow me one more over explanation ... I am linking to Amazon a lot because you can see the products, get details and read reviews. I am by no means recommending that you purchase on Amazon in lieu of supporting your local store-front business. I'm only putting it out for information sake. Believe me, if at all possible I buy at a local business. Local is the new black.
So here goes ...
1. This is hands down my favorite Bible, The Life Application Bible, NIV. Granted, once I found this Bible I haven't ventured out to explore other Bibles because I'm not sure I've mentioned it but this is my absolute favorite. Here is the link on Amazon. I have the leather bound. I'm sure you could find this at your local Christian book store. It's widely popular.

2. For the menfolk... "Portrait of My Father" by George W. Bush. I have not personally read this book so I don't have anything to go by except recommendations and reviews. And it's a #1 Best Seller. And I like the Bush men. So I may or may not be purchasing it for the men in my life. :)
3. For the cook ... Okay, now I could go on and on about this for days because I love a cookbook more than pretty much any book you could set before me. This one just came out in October and is on my "wishlist."
"The Southern Living Community Cookbook - Celebrating Food and Fellowship in the American South."
4. For the lover of beautiful things ... I have this book on my nightstand and love it. "The Nesting Place" by Myquillan Smith.
5. For some solid inspiration ... I think I have mentioned this book before but I loved it. I didn't want it to end. So I read her blog, "We are THAT Family.com" to keep up with what is going on in their lives. Like I know her. It is one woman's (and her family) journey of obedience to God's call. Powerful. "Rhinestone Jesus" by Kristen Welch.
6. A great read for Christmas ... "The Purpose of Christmas" by Rick Warren. I love everything Rick Warren writes. This is a good one for right now.
7. For the thinker in all of us ... this book will absolutely make you think about Scripture and current events. This book is forever etched in my mind. I highly recommend it. "The Harbinger" by Jonathan Cahn.
8. For the history lover ... I loved this book and I'm not usually a reader of historical non-fiction. It was fascinating. "Killing Kennedy" by Bill O'Reilly. As you probably know, Mr. O'Reilly has also written "Killing Lincoln," "Killing Jesus," and "Killing Patton."
9. For some mindless chick-lit ... anything that Mary Kay Andrews and Dorothea Benton Frank write. Most recent by MKA, "Save the Date."
Perfect for the Christmas season by DBF, "The Christmas Pearl."
10. And just because this is my most favorite children's book of ALL time, I'll round out the list with it. I love the Little Nutbrown Hare so much.
